Renault Trucks Kerax: a heavy goods vehicle designed for the construction industry

Launched in 1997, the Renault Trucks Kerax was manufactured for professionals working in construction. This heavy goods vehicle was originally created as a tractor and carrier to be used on construction sites. It can be used to handle the transport and conveyance of heavy and cumbersome loads over short or long distances and is particularly well-suited to construction projects, public road works and operations on limited-access sites such as mines or quarries.

In most incidences, our Renault Trucks Kerax vehicles are provided with a tipping bin. The bin is available in a dump or double-dump model. This allows for the safe transport of all large materials, equipment and parts. The truck is opened from the rear. Lots of our trucks are fitted with a tipping system, to make pouring easier, especially for bulk materials. Within the same range of vehicles, other trucks have a flat cargo chassis with a radio-controlled loading crane.

Main technical features of the Renault Trucks Kerax

Depending on the type of chassis (dump, flat cargo, etc.), the Renault Trucks Kerax GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) goes from 19 to 32 tonnes. For reference, its GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating) can reach 44 tonnes. With a view to combining responsiveness and manoeuvrability, its engine power ranges between 340 and 520 hp. Depending on the model selected, other technical features specific to that range of trucks can be added to the list:

  • A 16-speed manual transmission;
  • An automatic 12-speed gearbox with the OptiDrive option;
  • A 4-leaf rear suspension;
  • A cooled-air turbocharger;
  • Special protection on the engine flywheel;
  • A locking system for inter-axle and inter-wheel differential motors.

This last feature is ideal for driving on rough or hard-to-access terrain. Furthermore, some Renault Trucks Kerax also have an 8x4 configuration.

Why purchase a used Renault Trucks Kerax?

The manufacture of the Renault Trucks Kerax ceased in 2013. However, it is still possible to purchase this heavy load model from the second-hand market. Renault Trucks has several models available, including the Renault Trucks Kerax Adventure, Renault Trucks Kerax Xtrem and Renault Trucks Kerax DXI versions. Prior to being sold, each used truck undergoes a full inspection, running through 200 checkpoints.

A search system is available, with various selection criteria you can choose from. These criteria include mileage, engine power, chassis type, truck fittings or the date of first vehicle registration. Opting for a Renault Trucks Kerax is also possible based on other features, such as the GVWR or emission level. Concerning emissions, this range of trucks meets the requirements set out in both Euro 3 and Euro 4 standards. This depends on the year of manufacture, the version and the engine.
